The Happiest Laid-off Man in America
Time to live my dreams, yet again
|
Yes, you read that right, I've been laid off by my Internet company, and I couldn't be happier. Before you start wondering about my sanity, especially in this job market, let me explain: While I enjoyed my job, and at times I found it quite rewarding (like that paycheck every two weeks) I didn't feel my calling was in the project management I was doing. Some people really enjoy software installation, even making wonderful careers from it, but this is not me. I've been thinking about doing something different for a long time, something that matters in the world, though I never acted on my dreams because it was so much easier to sit back and take the pay than risk it all for a change. I've been looking for a catalyst to get me off my ass, and this is exactly what I needed. With severance and unemployment insurance, I should be liquid (though a bit poor) through next summer, which will allow me some time off to think about what I want to do next with my life. To help me along in that thought process, I'm gonna be wandering around a bit, with three fun trips coming up:
In the mean time, I've been working on reconfiguring my website, moving the content into a dynamic database that should present my content in a more visually appealing and logical manner. You should've seen the first move in that direction a few moments ago with an email describing the new newsletter program I am using. So do not cry for me, my friends, for I am not sad. Wish me luck and raise a toast, for I am joyous! And the adventures will continue....
